Interweave and Ostinatos
2013-14

The original Interweave mural
was inspired by jazz improvisation and structured in the manner of ostinati, a
continuous repeating rhythm, with variations and elaborations. This formal
structural device allowed freedom to experiment within the parameters of the
specific site, materials, and artistic intention. While acting as the
construction hoarding, the mural was also marked by three-dimensional Roman
numerals representing the site’s address. Ostinatos
is a set of four compositions extracted from
Interweave. It was made using selected portions of the
large panels, which featured a series of repeating shapes.
